How Often Should You Workout?
You probably see and know people who workout 5-7 days a week, which can lead to getting stuck in the comparison trap about how much you should be doing when it comes to exercise. While finding time to exercise is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, the key is finding the right balance to achieve your goals while preventing burnout and making it a realistic task with your schedule and lifestyle.
Factors to Consider:
Fitness Goals: Your workout frequency will vary depending on whether you aim to lose weight, build muscle, or improve endurance.
Physical Condition: Consider your current fitness level and any health conditions that may impact your ability to exercise.
Recovery Time: Your body needs time to recover and repair muscles after intense workouts.
Consistency: You want to pick a schedule/routine that you can realistically stick to because consistency over time is what will get you results.
General Guidelines:
Strength training: If you've followed me for a while, you'll know that adding strength training is HUGE for getting the results you want. You want to build muscle both for your overall health but it can make it easier to reach body composition goals.
Cardio: Some people like to bike, run, take a spin class, or have regular dance parties in your kitchen. Cardio supports overall health, but you don't need to run 7 days a week to see benefits!
General Movement Throughout the Day: When I work with clients, I try to see what their average step count is and we may try to slowly increase it. Don't underestimate the value of just getting more movement in during the day!
Listen to Your Body:
Ultimately, the best workout frequency is one that works for you and fits into your lifestyle. Pay attention to how your body responds to exercise and adjust your routine accordingly. Remember, consistency is key, but so is rest and recovery.
